One Percent
For God so loved the one percentHe gave them Ninety Nine,
To mow their grass and polish brass
And give their shoes a shine,
To cook their food and scrub their floors,
And then just on a lark,
To drive them in their Bentley
For a cruise around the park.
For God so loved his chosen ones
He gave them milk and honey,
Power, rank and privilege
And not a little money,
Then made them Lords of Commerce so
That they could own the banks,
The businesses and industries,
The dollars, yen and francs.
For god so loved his favorite sons
He gave a house to rule,
A Senate, House, Executive
Judiciary too,
But all their rich entitlements
Could not hold back the sea
Of ninety nine percent of us
Demanding dignity.
