Boundaries
There is a line, so very fineTwixt neediness and greed
We often find that things we want
Are not the things we need.
The boundary between lust and love,
The border tween despair
And simple disappointment
Is thinner than a hair.
The demarcation truely is
So slender don't you see
Between one feeling pity
Or feeling empathy.
Chastise a child or scar a soul
The border runs there too,
To criticize or denigrate,
Give up or start anew.
Is it hope or just delusion?
Is it caution or just fear,
Loving life or tempting fate,
Or confidence or jeer?
We all live on these borderlines.
The trick is taking care,
Never fear to take a stand,
But know those lines are there.
