Poem Commentary

This one speaks for itself.

Boundaries

There is a line, so very fine
Twixt neediness and greed
We often find that things we want
Are not the things we need.

The boundary between lust and love,
The border tween despair
And simple disappointment
Is thinner than a hair.

The demarcation truely is
So slender don't you see
Between one feeling pity
Or feeling empathy.

Chastise a child or scar a soul
The border runs there too,
To criticize or denigrate,
Give up or start anew.

Is it hope or just delusion?
Is it caution or just fear,
Loving life or tempting fate,
Or confidence or jeer?

We all live on these borderlines.
The trick is taking care,
Never fear to take a stand,
But know those lines are there.

truer words were never spoken......the question is do we all really know where the boundries are.....and if we know, are we true to them, are we true to ourselves or are we always setting new boundries.

Yes! It's a duty too few are willing to conscientiously undertake, whether it be because of fear, ignorance or the belief that they're just inadequate to the task, so they take the rote road, and relieve themselves of the responsibility... but, then, they really don't, do they? Do we really see things that others don't, or are we just not smart enough to keep our mouths shut ha ha.

Or, perhaps, a little of each....

Nice. That 4th dimension of life. Too much it burns, too little its under cooked. Perhaps everything has a center of gravity, just a matter of knowing what and where. Deep perceptive poem.

Very fine lines..... we cross them and sometimes only realizing it when it's too late. But thank God for second chances. Excellent poem.

There is a border starkly terse, twixt deep poetic and shallow verse. Keep walkin' the line, fellow bard.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
