    Limerick 5

My cat wants to write limericks too.

He jumps on the keyboard and mews.

    But his poems are born,

    Lacking substance and form,

And always get panned in reviews.

My sled dog once wrote a poem too, About being sled dog number two. He always growled and he barked, Because he wanted to stay parked. For when running he hated the view.

LOL! Somehow I missed this comment. My apologies for that. Well, I can't say that I blame him. I imagine that the lead dog benefited from more pristine air as well!

To cute for words, and, Limerick speaking, perfect. Bravo! Thought: the first line— "My cat wants write limericks too" —there's a "to" missing, and then too many to's would be a mouthful. How about: My cat writes limericks too. Maybe?

Lol! So you know what I'm talking about. Ambition is a good thing, but I'm trying to figure out how to tell him, gently, that he may not be cut out for this line of work!

Actually, this is a bit of fiction. With my kids, we had several cats manly because the ones we got were too stupid to stay away from mortal threat. I still loved them and it pained me to have the final one put down due to a rattlesnake bite. (Texas) Dogs have faired a bit better at staying alive, but seem to have no poetic bent whatsoever. . .

Harver, I think dogs are more inclined to be dadists artistically. They paint with urine and revel in smells that common man has difficulty understanding. Like Marcel Duchamp they relish in upsetting human sensibilities. Whereas cats, I think, are mostly abstract expressionists. They leave the interpretation of their works up to the viewer and realize that any enlightenment they might shed on the work would only detract from its power to inspire stupid ideas....

My dog, so you say, is a dadaist His taste in smell ain't the greatest But compared to the cat Leaves a gentleman's scat While the pussy, such a hussy, is a sadist.

    LOL

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
