    Poem Commentary

I try to follow the middle path and avoid conflict. But that doesn't prevent me from grieving when a friend is lost. So without taking sides or casting aspersions, here is my dirge for a lost friend.

    Tribute to Helios

The loss of one, so very young,
    So erudite and clear,
With such potential and such hope
    Brings sorrow most sincere.

It isn't like his job was done,
And we had drunk our fill,
Of words that like sweet wine did flow
From the fountain of his quill.

It's like the sunshine stole away,
    And we were left morose,
Because the light was taken soon,
    Our morning sun, our Helios.

I never did get a chance to thank-you for writing this tribute on the page where you posted it. When you told me of this poem, there were no words to describe my deepest and most sincere appreciation. I am happy that we share the Vietnamese culture, in one form or another. Mr. Meisenheimer [ Glen if I may], to think that in the short time since the Papa's disapperance to now... all of this could have happened. I feel we, as poets, are farther away from poetry as we can be. As I would joke about " the Fall of Berlin", I do get a sense that it is the end of something... though not always perfect... sublime at times. Since it is nearly Tết, I wish you a happy new year full of health and creative energy. Chúc Mừng Năm Mới Bác Glen.

Dear gmcookie, // This is a deeply moving and very beautiful poem. I can only hope that someone will honor me with such an esthetically pleasing, emotionally deep, and honest tribute, when I am gone. // Of course, because of the universal appeal and application of the best poetry, this great poem honors all of the people for whom its words apply. So much of this poem could apply to me, that I feel that it actually does honor me. // That aside, this is a beautiful, moving poem, that should touch any heart that has humanity in it. It is also well written, and earns my admiration as a poet. But though the diction and the structure are excellent, it is the meaning and the emoition that strike my heart most. So many of these words touch me. // You make me mourn for your bright friend, your Helios. You have given him his just due. // I love this poem. Thank you, fellow poet. --Michael LP, Mr. Poet

This is truely a beautiful tribute to Helios. I had a few chances to communicate with Helios during his time on the site. I had to agree with some points he was making. Like Madelynn, I read his poetry and could not get enough! It was great for someone my junior! We should have cherished his gift on the site. He wrote with great passion for his subjects. I miss his poems...

It was beautiful poem really short but amazingly powerful!

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
