You Weren't Here
You weren't here this morning.
The skies were leaden gray.
The sparrows with their cheerful songs
Had somehow flown away.
The willow wept sincerely.
The sun was lost in gloom.
The silent rain fell equally
On school yard and tomb.
You weren't here this morning.
As time wears on and on.
I find I can't accept the fact
That you are really gone.
