     Silence doth become the dead,
    In stillness you should lay.
    Think not of things that might have been
    Nor what war took away.

    Speak not to me of family,
    Of children nor of wife.
    For they had lesser claim than we
    On what you called your life.

    Glen, you need no one to tell you that you write great poetry and this is a fine example of why this is true. Here we find the voice of the poem stating that a person's life may well be one of silence when those of us send them off to war forgetting the value of a life. We who are left behind struggle to remain mute on the life so that we may make war more palatable for us.

    I'm glad you liked it my friend. I had a feeling you would... I don't write a lot of "dark poetry", but was in Vietnam a couple of weeks ago and started thinking about my war buddies that didn't make it back. This poem was the result. It sounds cold, but it speaks the truth, which unfortunately is sometimes cold as ice.

    It's an idea that looks good on paper, but the dead, alas, are intractable... I mean, it's not like you can kill 'em, or anything. Ephemeral subtlety, here, GM.
