    Poem Commentary

    This morning's ferry poem.... I'm still thinking about line 8. I may change that.

    Greed

     Behind your tattered veil of lies,
    Behind your rigid mask,
    Behind the misdirection in
    The questions that you ask,

    In between the knowing sneers
    That snake across your face,
    Beneath your indignation and
    The pride that you embrace,

    Resides your cold hard kernel,
    That ego that you feed.
    Your hardened heart encompasses
    Unmitigated greed.

    Ha ha... I've always wondered what's to be gained from speaking truth to power... It's not as if they're going to learn from the example : D

    Chaos, I didn't see your comment. I'm glad you're still hanging in there. Yep, its a bit like talking to the wall. I'm actually talking to the 1% here. Not that I expect it to do any good... I'm working on a poem now about Mitt - the darling of the 1%.

    Wow that was short and direct. i prefer more colorful language but it got it said plain and clearly. Greed for me is the hunger in the eyes, the slight of hand, the glutton to sneek and finish the last chocolate strawberry. I guess i think of it in more everyday terms but it is the same thing. Hard to lock that down. Write on.....................jTlady

    Actually, when I wrote this I was thinking of the 1%... While children overseas are dying in wars and famines, while folks right here in this country are losing the homes they spent their whole lives struggling for, there are people profiting from other folks misery. This is what I'd like to say to them...

    When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
