    Poem Commentary

    Wow, the more I read this piece, the less I like it. It started off as a exercise to see how many cliche's all saying basically the same thing I could cram into one piece. It was fun munging them around to get them to fit into the structure. But in the end it only serves as a reminder of how bad structured verse can be if you don't watch out!

    Leadership

     Sometimes you've got to take the shot
    And leave the outcome up to fate.
    So give your heart and all you've got,
    Don't let yourself procrastinate.

    Sometimes you've got to do the deed,
    You've got to take the task in hand.
    The opportunity to lead
    Goes to those who take a stand.

    Sometimes you've got to make the leap,
    To beat the odds you've got to try.
    To find yourself atop the heap
    You've gotta spread your wings and fly.

    Sometimes you've got to go for broke,
    And when the final tally's run
    They'll say that you were not a joke,
    But one who got the mission done!

    I enjoyed this piece. I can see that you cleared up many problems with the scansion and minor issues. I think R.H. Peat once told me to avoid cliches. L8 is "FAvors"

    Nhat, Thanks for the feedback on L8. I don't know how I missed that. It's just that the piece irritates me. It's too trite. I only left it up as an reminder to myself that structured verse can also be bad verse if you don't pay attention. I will try to fix L8 this weekend.
