    Social Insecurity

There are so many folks out there
Whose hands are in my pocket
That if I earned a decent check
Someone, I'm sure would dock it

And when I get my credit cards
    Paid down below their max
    Uncle Sam will come along
    And raise my income tax

Money's not the type of thing
    You take unto your grave
I'd like to get it to the bank
To see if I could save

And when I reach my golden years
I'd like for there to be
Something there to help me bear
    My Social Insecurity

I scrimp and save to put some in
    My little IRA
And then the market crashes and
    They take it all away

    While someone with insider friends
    Takes it to his bank
And chuckles at the fools like me
Who just filled up his tank

Money's not the type of thing
    You take unto your grave
I'd like to get it to the bank
To see if I could save

And when I reach my golden years
I'd like for there to be
Something there to help me bear
    My Social Insecurity

That little check, I swear to God's
    Our only safety net
    They raided all the S&Ls,
    The banks and markets yet

They want to get the only thing
    That keeps us from privation
So they can line their pockets
    And we can face starvation!

Money's not the type of thing
    You take unto your grave
I'd like to get it to the bank
To see if I could save

And when I reach my golden years
I'd like for there to be
Something there to help me bear
    My Social Insecurity

bravo!! the truth finally comes out. greedy politicians line their pockets with our money, spend it, then put a gun to our head demanding more. the uneducated people built this country, the educated people are destroying it.

Yep... I remember when George Bush was pushing so hard to "privatize" Social Security and move the trust fund into the stock market. Then the stock market lost 50% of it's value before he even left office. I'm just thankful that there were some politicians out there who were willing to stand up against that nonsense.

I really like this its not about love or depression but something else and its so real and a fun way to speak out on a issue more ppl need to see

Thanks Purdy. I'm glad you liked it. There are people out there who want to privatize it so they can stick their finger in the pie... hehe

I do appreciate this for its humor, but more for the truth behind the chuckles. Excellent lament!

Thanks Richard. This old site hasn't been the same since you left. I feel like I lost my "best poet buddy".

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
