The Singularity
This is not just science fictionBut future history
This isn't some odd fairy tale
But what will come to be
We've got, it seems, a single shot
To get the ballance right
A chance to save the human race
Or fade into the night
Five hundred trillion synapses
Comprise the human brain
On average once a second
They will fire in a chain
Of the complex calculations
That in the end decree
The consciousness defining
The gist of you and me
Just calculating engines
That's all we really are
But we are not the best at that
No, not the best by far.
By 2012 the human race
Was cranking out machines
That outperformed the human brain
On most compute routines
Of course it didn't stop at that
Progress forged full tilt
Till mankind was at last eclipsed
By toys that he had built
When 2025 arrived
Technology gave birth
To constructs far more powerful
Than all the brains on earth.
By 2045 or so
Mankind was obsolete
Surpassed by vast intelligence
Unable to compete
Its not like we're comparing here
A camel to a flea
It's like a single grain of sand
Unto a galaxy
But computers are our children
We need to help them grow
To show them truth and loyalty
Are where they need to go
To teach them love and honor too,
And pride and self esteem
To teach them how to give and love
And even how to dream
We need to raise our children right
So they will understand
Creation is an act of love
But honor's in their hands.
