The Kid Down the Street
When we meet a kid in need
It's up to us to choose
Whether we will stop to help,
Who will win and who will lose.
If someone hasn't got the time
To teach them right from wrong
The village needs to raise that child
And let them know that they belong.
Cause when we meet that kid some day
We'll choose to help or walk away.
They have a name for that, you see
It's called responsibility.
We raise our kids and teach them right,
When the gun shots pierce the night
It doesn't matter what we said
It's what we did that counts instead.
For, there's a price that we may pay,
That kid may kill our kids some day.
It's really up to us to choose.
Just who will win and who will lose?
In life's long arc we someday learn
Which bridge to build and which to burn.
Yet still, our task is incomplete
Without that kid just down the street.
